If pie’s not your thing …

wedding-coffee-donutsFrom feedback we received at our Facebook page last week, it seems like everyone’s keen on pie for weddings.

But in case you’re not sold, here’s another dessert idea: glass mugs of coffee with mini donuts. (My new favorite!)

Good Things for Winter Weddings
End-of-Wedding Treat
End your celebration with a few oohs (as in diminutive doughnuts) and aahs (as in the delighted response they’re sure to evoke) by passing out these traditional breakfast treats as a dessert with coffee service, either skewered on coffee spoons or set in dainty piles. Any way you serve them, guests are sure to circle back for more. – Read more at marthastewartweddings.com

Is this perfect for wintry weddings or what?

Now, if you’re planning a summer 2011 wedding, I’m thinking the warm-weather counterpart is root beer floats with snickerdoodles. What do you think?

Move over cupcakes!

wedding-pie-buffetTREND: It seems pie is the new wedding cake. Move on over cupcakes!

Pie has been served in lieu of cake at at least 4 of our recent weddings, including one this weekend and the gorgeous event pictured at right.

Wedding trend: Candy bars

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

candy-barWe’ve been seeing this trend among the weddings we’ve supplied this spring: tables brimming with vessels of brightly colored candy. It can be a wonderful supplement (or replacement) for a wedding cake and serves as a decorative element as well.

Want to offer a candy bar at your wedding? Start by reading this comprehensive article on candy bars: “How Sweet It Is: Building the Candy Buffet of Your Dreams.” The most important advice is to buy enough (read: tons) of candy.

kids-at-candy-barThen take a look at one of the galleries from a wedding we supplied last year, “Fuchsia & Lime Wedding,” for inspiration.

Pacific Party Canopies carries several glass cylinders, vases and punch bowls you can use for serving candy. Or if you’re looking for curvy apothecary jars, check the Burlington Fred Meyer’s housewares department for a few $15 models. Crate and Barrel sells the perfect small hanging scoops and sugar tongs. Offering ladles with your candy bar is not advised. Can you say “sugar rush”?!
