6 creative uses for tulle

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

For big flair that costs just a little, get your hands on some tulle. This inexpensive, gauzy fabric is available in a range of colors at local fabric stores like Jo-Ann. Here are a few of our favorite uses for tulle.

With or without a canopy liner, you can dress up your wedding tent with lengths of tulle.

For a square tent, swag from each corner up to the center. For larger canopies, swag from the sides to each center pole. Call us at (360) 707-2115 and one of our event experts will talk you through it.

Be sure to purchase pieces of fabric that are longer than the distance you want to cover so you get that soft curve in the swags.

Personalize a simple bridesmaid dress with a tulle wrap. Tie a big bow in back for a dramatic,”now” look. Get directions from Martha Stewart.

Or, embellish the bride’s gown with a pretty bow at the shoulder, like Monique Lhuillier did.

For an airy alternative to specialty fabric chair sashes, tie your seats with tulle. (Tulle sashes shown here with children’s table and chairs.)

Remember, because we don’t rent by they hour, you can usually get your chairs and other event rental items a day or two in advance without extra charges so you have time to decorate.

More ideas: Wrap a plain-jane ring pillow in a bold color or swap standard leg drape ties for swashes of tulle.

If pie’s not your thing …

wedding-coffee-donutsFrom feedback we received at our Facebook page last week, it seems like everyone’s keen on pie for weddings.

But in case you’re not sold, here’s another dessert idea: glass mugs of coffee with mini donuts. (My new favorite!)

Good Things for Winter Weddings
End-of-Wedding Treat
End your celebration with a few oohs (as in diminutive doughnuts) and aahs (as in the delighted response they’re sure to evoke) by passing out these traditional breakfast treats as a dessert with coffee service, either skewered on coffee spoons or set in dainty piles. Any way you serve them, guests are sure to circle back for more. – Read more at marthastewartweddings.com

Is this perfect for wintry weddings or what?

Now, if you’re planning a summer 2011 wedding, I’m thinking the warm-weather counterpart is root beer floats with snickerdoodles. What do you think?

Move over cupcakes!

wedding-pie-buffetTREND: It seems pie is the new wedding cake. Move on over cupcakes!

Pie has been served in lieu of cake at at least 4 of our recent weddings, including one this weekend and the gorgeous event pictured at right.

“Sweetheart” tables keep it cozy

Friday, September 10th, 2010

wedding sweeheart tableAn article about raising the romance quotient in the latest issue of Bridal Guide got us thinking. What’s the deal with “sweetheart” tables? And should you have one at your wedding?

(Full disclosure: I did. See awkward photo at right or my reception floor plan.)

So read on for the finer points of this head-table alternate and decide for yourself.

Sweetheart Table (noun) /swēt-härt tābəl/

1. A table for two: bride + groom. (Mrs., cozy on up to your new Mr.)
2. A table that does not seat the bridal party. (They sit at designated tables with spouses or friends. Skirts the issue of separating spouses; also, doesn’t highlight the only single person in your bridal party like a traditional head table could.)
3. Typically a 4′ banquet table. (To provide space for a large floral arrangement or sentimental items, a 6′ banquet table or 48″ round could be used instead.)
4. A small table, thus providing more flexibility than, say, a banquet table for 28. (Try centering the sweetheart table at the head of the reception space and angling banquet tables or rounds on each side.)
5. Something different. (OK, not that different. But it’s a little different.)

Whatever you choose, Pacific Party Canopies has rental tables in all sizes for your wedding. If you’re still having trouble deciding, come into our Burlington showroom and we’ll be happy to set up tables for you to see.

One more thing
The dirty little secret about any kind of head table is this: Newlyweds hardly get a chance to sit down. But, hey, it’s tradition, and the groom’s gotta have a place to drop his jacket when he gets the urge to dance.
